The OOTP Predictions for April 3 are complete and ready for you to view below. The results from yesterday's games are falling in line with previous predictions. There were seven incorrect predictions and five correct.
Several surprising results occurred yesterday. It seems that the Baltimore Orioles are starting to look like contenders. They keep winning. Boston continues to appear as the favored team in the simulator and they keep losing. It's getting to the point where being the start of the season won't hold up as an excuse. Teams need to start solidifying soon.
For today's predictions, Boston is once again favored and interestingly, their strength indicator (Runs Scored / Runs Allowed) increased significantly from yesterday's prediction. Perhaps the simulator believes losing this many games will somehow fire the team up? I don't know the internal workings of the AI engine for OOTP. Therefore, it's pure speculation on my part.
Other upsets include the Yankees, the Texas Rangers, and the Angels. I already mentioned Baltimore with the team winning when they were predicted to lose. Another winning team that's been flying under the radar is Seattle. They are a team to watch this year.
The simulator predicted Philadelphia to lose. With Bryce Harper's serving a strikeout for his first at bat against his former team, it seemed like that was in the cards. But, the simulator didn't account for how fired up Harper is or how fired up Philly is for having him on the team. We'll see what happens on today's game as Washington is once again favored in the simulator.
