Python is a general-purpose language that is relatively easy to learn. However, there are the right ways and the wrong ways to learn the language. When you learn from an expert in Python, you'll have access to the right way to learn Python.

The following briefly describes the four chapters that are included in this free training:

Python Basics

Obviously, you have to start somewhere. This module serves as a solid starting module. Learn about data

Intro Python Chapter 2

Python Lists

Lists are a key component of Python. Learning them will allow you to expand your Python abilities.

Functions and Packages

Python can be developed as a modular language. For this, you'll need to understand how to write functions and use packages.

Intro Python Chapter 4

NumPy Package

Since Python is used heavily for machine learning, knowing how to use the NumPy package is essential to this learning.

Never Taken a Data Camp Course Before?

One big advantage of using Data Camp to learn the tools needed for data jobs is that everything is self-contained. This means you don't have to worry about installing compilers or other tools. You simply sign on to your learning dashboard, choose the course you want to learn and move forward with your learning.

Like most Data Camp courses (maybe all?), the Introduction to Python course is self-contained. You'll get a Python interpreter and the instrutor will guide you with exercises to reinforce your learning.

What If You Get Stuck?

Almost all of the Data Camp courses give hints for each of the exercises. Oh, and if you really can't figure it out after all the hints, they will provide you with the solution.

Pros Vs. Cons

  • You WILL LEARN the basics of Python by taking this class.
  • You'll Learn from an Expert and an Industry Leader.
  • It's Free (at least at the time of writing - subject to change)
  • This Course Has Practice Modules Even After You Have Completed the Course (may be available only in premium!)

  • Some learners from forums have stated that Data Camp courses can be too guided. However, I don't agree. I believe that when first stating out, having that guidance is quite helpful. However, don't become dependent on the training. You will need to learn how to set up environments and tools eventually.
  • I would have liked to see a module on the Pandas package. It's another essential package for data practitioners. There are other training provided by Data Camp for Pandas.

Bottom Line

I can't imagine how anyone can go wrong by taking this course to learn Python. I can't emphasize enough that you have an expert at your disposal to learn the language proprely. You also don't have to pay anything for the language. It makes no sense to skip this training module.
